ATHENS, GA. -- St. John's University junior Erik Scharf (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) will play in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship on Wednesday at the University of Georgia. The NCAA Men's Tennis Championships, which run from Wednesday through Sunday, are being played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. They bring together the top-64 players in the country in a single elimination draw.Scharf will meet top-seeded Jeff Morrison, from the University of Florida at 10:30 a.m. The winner of that match advances to play on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., meeting the winner of the Nenad Toroman (Tulsa)-Mark Parsons (Tennessee) match. Shcarf, ranked fourth in District 1, finished the season with a 33-3 overall record, including a 9-0 mark in the BIG EAST. He guided the Red Storm to a 10-6 overall record, a 7-0 mark in the conference and a third place finish in the BIG EAST Tournament.The first St. John's player to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Championships in at least 10 years, Scharf faces a tough task in his first round match.
