May 7, 2004 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - St. John's men's tennis player, Louis Desmarteaux (Thornhill, Ontario) was named to the 2004 BIG EAST All-Tournament team, it was announced this afternoon by the league office. A freshman standout, Desmarteaux finished the 2004 spring season with a 13-6 record at the No. 1 singles spot, leading St. John's to a 12-11 overall record. At No. 3, Desmarteaux chipped in a 3-1 record, upping his overall total to 16-7 on the season. Desmarteaux won his No. 1 match, 7-5, 6-4, over his Rutgers opponent in the first round of the 2004 BIG EAST Tournament, helping the fourth seeded Red Storm advance to the semifinals.
St. John's finished fourth overall in the BIG EAST Tournament. Notre Dame captured the men's title, beating the top-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies in the final round in Coral Gables, Fla.
