Jamaica, N.Y. In the latest WingspanBank.com collegiate tennis rankings,
Erik Scharf (Bronxville, N.Y.) has achieved the no. 100 rank in the nation. The ITA uses a point-per-match computer formula to determine the rankings. This is Scharfs first time in the national rankings. Scharf is one of three players from the BIG EAST ranked among the top 100 and the only one from the northeast region.
During the 2000-01 season, Scharf has compiled a 31-4 record. Scharf went undefeated in dual match action, notching 16 wins. Scharf has recorded many significant wins this season. At the ITA All-American Championship, Scharf defeated Jason Marshall of Purdue, who was then ranked 17th nationally. Scharf advanced to the semifinals as the no. 3 seed of the 128-player ITA Eastern Regional Championships.
Though the Red Storms season has ended Scharf still has competition left. During the last week of May, Scharf will compete at the NCAA Championships for the second time in his career.
