Flushing, N.Y.The St. Johns mens tennis team defeated the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, 5-1, in a final tune-up before the they are set to begin BIG EAST Conference play. The Red Storm improve to 6-8 overall on the season.

St. Johns won two out three doubles matches to earn the very important doubles point. Rick Ferreira (Fort Beaufort, S. Africa) and Nick Stocker (Norwich, England), playing at the No. 2, earned an 8-6 victory, while the team of Morgan Bauer (New York, N.Y.) and Boris Chiporuka (Brooklyn, N.Y.), playing the No. 3, earned an 8-2 victory.

In the singles matches, Arnaud Agniel (Aix-en Province, France), senior Jake Maxwell (Glen Cove, N.Y.), and Jonathan Skinner (Norwich, England) each won in straight sets. Todd Goldberg (Pomona, N.Y.), playing the No. 6, earned a victory in one of the most exciting matches of the season, defeating Gusmao, 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 in a three set thriller.
