Irvine, Calif.The St. Johns mens tennis (5-8) team finished with a 1-2 record at the UCI Classic held in Irvine, Calif. The Red Storm fell to Cal. Poly (0-6) and Southern Mississippi (2-5) and defeated Idaho (4-3) in a close and exciting match.
In the match versus Idaho, St. Johns dropped the double point, meaning they would have to win four out of the six singles matches to win. Arnaud Agniel (Aix-en Province, France) and Nick Stocker (Norwich, England), playing the No 2 and No. 3 spots, each went the distance in their matches. Agniel defeated Mucharraz, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, while Stocker defeated Faulman, 6-3,5-7, 6-3.
St. Johns needed two points in the final three matches to secure the victory. Freshman Morgan Bauer (New York, N.Y.) earned a straight sets victory over Idahos Dummet, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4. Todd Goldberg (Pomona, N.Y.), playing at the No. 6, clinched the match with a straight sets, 7-6, 6-4, victory over Suttner.
