Flushing, N.Y. - The St. John's men's and women's tennis teams dropped matches to Xavier University at the National Tennis Center. The Red Storm men fell in a 4-3 decision while the women took a 6-1 loss.
The men took the doubles point with 8-6 wins by No. 1 doubles team Fabian Carchi and Christian Carere and the No. 3 team of Todd Goldberg and Boris Chiporukha.
Just two men won their singles matches. At No. 2 singles, Carchi topped Matt Thinnes, 6-4, 7-6 for the win. Chiporukha took the No. 4 match over Aaron Bauer, 6-4, 6-1.
For the women, Tessa Lewis earned their only point with a 7-5, 0-6(13-11) win at No. 2. The women were without the services of senior Vera Efstathiou who is battling a bad back.
