St. John's Men's Tennis Defeats Binghamton, 6-1

Jamaica, N.Y.-The St. Johns mens tennis team defeated Binghamton University, 6-1, in a match played this past weekend on the campus of St. Johns University. The Red Storm won five out of six singles matches and earned the doubles point by winning two out of three matches to improve to 3-6 on the season.

In the doubles matches, No. 1 Rick Ferreira (Fort Beaufort, S. Africa) and Arnaud Agniel (Aix-en Province, France) defeated Sherwood and Rao in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (5). The No. 2 team of Nick Stocker (Norwich, England) and Morgan Bauer (New York, N.Y.) secured the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over Vallabenani and Gerard.

In the singles matches, Agniel defeated Davidoff, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2, while at the No. 3 Bauer defeated Gerard, 6-4, 6-1. In the most exiting singles match of the day, senior Jake Maxwelll (Glen Cove, N.Y.) dropped the first set, but rallied back to win the final two for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 4. Stocker and sophomore Boris Chiporuka (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added straight set victories at the No. 5 and 6 positions, respectively.

The St. Johns mens tennis team returns to action on March 28-30 when they travel to Irvine, Calif. for the UCI Classic.
