Clemson, S.C.The St. Johns mens tennis team struggled in the season opening Clemson Invitational held in Clemson, S.C. The Red Storm fell to Florida A&M (5-1), Troy State (5-2), Clemson (4-0) and Tennessee Tech (4-0) during the three day event.
Freshman Morgan Bauer (New York, N.Y.) had a solid showing during the three-day event, earning a singles victory at the No. 4 over Tennessee Techs Cuesta 6-2, 6-1 and at the No. 6 versus Troy States Langheim, 6-3, 6-3.
The Red Storms double play for the Invitational was highlighted by a clean sweep of Troy State. The No. 1 team of Rick Ferreira (Fort Beaufort, S. Africa) and Arnaud Agniel (Aix-en Province, France) earned an 8-4 victory, setting the stage for Bauer and Todd Goldberg (Pomona, N.Y.) to clinch the doubles point at the No. 3 with an 8-3 victory.
Other highlights for St. Johns included Agniels three set victory over Florida A&Ms Russell at the No. 2, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
