Men's Tennis Wins Fourth-Straight with 5-2 Win Over Rutgers

Piscataway, N.J. - The St. John's men's tennis team won their fourth-straight match, beating BIG EAST rival Rutgers, 5-2, in Piscataway, N.J. With the win, the Red Storm improve to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Wins by the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams gave St. John's a 1-0 edge before singles play started. After Rutgers' Tyler Deming and Gordy Milchvisky beat Louis Desmarteaux and Claudio Holim in the No. 1 spot, the No. 2 pair of Nick Stocker and Todd Goldberg picked up the Red Storm's first win with an 8-5 defeat of Harry Cicma and Gabe Adams. David Nylen and Morgan Bauer combined for a 9-8 win over Matt Fawcett and Alex Tervooren at the No. 3 spot to claim the first point for St. John's.

Deming defeated Desmarteaux to open up singles play and tie the score at one. Nylen's 6-2, 6-1 win over Milchvisky at No. 2 gave the Red Storm a 2-1 lead and St. John's put the match away with wins at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Stocker won easily at the No. 4 spot, beating Fawcett 6-2, 6-1 and Morgan Bauer's win over Cicma at No. 5 (6-4, 6-4) gave St. John's the win. Holim won his No. 6 match over Adams, 6-3, 7-6, while Aurelio Di Zazzo retired at the No. 3 spot (3-6, 5-0 - Ret.).

St. John's returns to BIG EAST action against UConn on Saturday and will face Fairleigh Dickinson in a second match.
