Queens, NY - The St. John's University men's tennis team broke a six-match losing streak as they knocked off Binghamton, 4-3 on Friday night inside at the Binghamton Tennis Center. The Red Storm improve to 2-9, while the Bearcats fall to 9-5. The doubles point deemed critical for the Red Storm, as they took the point and split in singles action for the 4-3 win. At. No. 1 doubles, the team of senior Boris Chiporukha (Brooklyn, NY) and junior David Nylen (Orebro, Sweden) held off Dan Hanegby and Brian O'Conner, 8-6. St. John's also took second doubles as junior Nick Stocker (Norwich, England) and sophomore Louis Desmarteaux (Thornhill, Ontario) won in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (5) over Alex Dobrin and Faisal Mohamed. The Bearcats and Red Storm would split the singles matches, as St. John's took points at No. 2, 5 and 6. Nylen, at No. 2, came from a set down to beat Richemn Mourad, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. Stocker and sophomore Claudio Halim (Jakarta, Indonesia) won in straight sets, with Stocker defeating Edwin Gerard at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2 and Halim at No. 6 beating O'Conner, 6-4, 6-3. St. John's original match scheduled for Saturday, March 12 versus Cornell was cancelled. The Red Storm will return to the courts on Friday, March 18 at Columbia, with the match to begin at 3 pm.
