St. John's Men's Soccer Hosts Seton Hall At In BIG EAST Tournament First Round

QUEENS, N.Y. - On Wednesday, November 7 at 5:30 p.m., the Red Storm hosts the Pirates of Seton Hall in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament. St. John's enters the tournament as the third seed in the Red Division, while Seton Hall is the sixth seed in the Blue Division.

Scouting Seton Hall

  • Wednesday will mark the 2nd meeting this season and the 32nd meeting overall between the Pirates and the Red Storm. St. John's leads the all-time series 19-11-1 and owns a 10-3-1 record in the home contests. The Red Storm has won seven of the last ten meetings and defeated Seton Hall 1-0 earlier this season.
  • On offense Eliseo Giusfredi leads the team with ten goals, eight assists and 28 points. Giusfredi has three game-winners and has also converted three of four penalty kicks on the year. Brayan Martinez has four goals and four assists, while Andrew Welker adds five goals and 11 points.
  • Paul McHenry has a 1.84 GAA and a .727 save percentage in goal for Syracuse. He has two shutouts and a 7-9-0 record.
  • Seton Hall has scored 31 goals this season, 22 of which have come in the second half of play.
  • The Pirates are 1-6-0 on the road this season.

  • This is the Red Storm's 17th straight BIG EAST Tournament appearance.
  • Omar Alfonso was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after tallying two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 over Syracuse.
  • St. John's is currently ranked tenth in the NSCAA/adidas Northeast Regional rankings.
  • Michael Luk leads the team with nine points and five assists.

  • The Red Storm is 35th in the country in team goals against average (0.72) and is 31st in shutout percentage (0.53).
  • Jason Landers is 15th in the nation in goals against average (0.62).

  • St. John's is 5th in the conference with a 0.80 team GAA and is tied for 4th with nine shutouts.
  • Jason Landers is 3rd with a 0.62 GAA and is tied for 7th with a .811 save percentage. Landers is also tied for 7th with six shutouts and is 3rd with 0.55 shutouts per game.
    Stepan Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team
  • Senior defender Jeff Stepan was named to the Academic All-District First Team by CoSIDA.
  • A 2006 CoSIDA Academic All-American, Stepan will now be added to the Academic All-America ballot for 2007.
