JAMAICA, N.Y. -- St. Johns University mens soccer assistant mens soccer coach Marc Reeves was honored as one of the recipients of the 2003 AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Awards. The award recognizes outstanding assistant coaches throughout the nation on both the college and high school levels, and winners are selected from approximately 350,000 assistant coaches nationwide by a panel of judges from Coach & Athletic Director magazine.
Reeves was one of only seven NCAA Division I mens soccer coaches selected for the award, and one of only 27 Division I coaches honored overall. Reeves recently finished his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Red Storm mens soccer program, which has been among the elite in the country. St. Johns was ranked as the No. 1 team in the country for five weeks during the regular season last year, and the team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament, the seventh-straight season the Red Storm have done so. In 2001, Reeves was a key member of the St. Johns coaching staff that guided the team to a 17-3-3 overall record, the programs second appearance in the NCAA Final Four and the programs 10th BIG EAST Tournament Championship. Im really happy for Reevo because its a credit to him and how hard he works, St. Johns Head Coach Dave Masur said. Hes a young coach, but he understands the game and has been a big part of our success over the last four years. The criteria in the second annual AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year program was based on longevity, expertise, contributions to the school and community, and special achievements throughout a coaches career. The selections were based on nominations made by head coaches, athletic administrators and current student-athletes, fans and the board members themselves. The 500 honorees this year were selected from a field of more than 350,000 college and high school coaches in all sports across the nation. 2003 AFLAC Assistant Coaches - College Division I
