QUEENS, N.Y. - Eight student-athletes from the St. John's men's lacrosse team were selected to the prestigious 35-member All-ECAC Academic Team announced by ECAC Commissioner Rudy Keeling on Wednesday. Seniors Chris DeMarco, Rob Gannon, Mike Luyster, Ryan Parker and Jack Rosson made the list, as well as juniors Tom Manes and Matt Viscusi and sophomore Gavin Buckley. As a team, St. John's led the way with eight selections followed by Hobart with seven student-athletes honored. Buckley, who was the starting goalie in the Red Storm's wins over Penn State and Fairfield led the team and was second in the conference with a 3.83 GPA. Among the eight St. John's honorees were two of the three 2008 captains, Luyster and Viscusi. In order to be selected to the team, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA through at least four semesters of work at their current institution, been a significant contributor to his team and have participated in at least 50 percent of the games (33 percent of the minutes for goalies).
