QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's hosts the Siena Saints in a mid-week, non-conference contest on Tuesday, March 25. Face-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. on DaSilva Memorial Field.

  • The Red Storm (0-6, 0-2 ECAC) is on the hunt for its first win of the season. St. John's has been on the road for most of the first half of its schedule, and the team is looking for a win at home as the turning point before heading into a month of conference play. The Siena Saints are 5-2 on the season and are currently riding a two-game winning streak, defeating the then-No. 17 Loyola Greyhounds in a 6-4 upset on March 18, followed by a decisive 10-4 victory over Hartford on March 22.

  • Tuesday's meeting is the 14th between the two schools. St. John's is undefeated in the series. Last year, the Red Storm was able to snap Siena's two-game winning streak with a 10-7 victory on neutral turf.

  • Follow all the action via the internet with CSTV All-Access live stats, audio and video on the official home of St. John's Athletics, www.RedStormSports.com. The voice of Seth Cantor will bring the play-by-play live from DaSilva Memorial Field.

    The Series Against The Saints

  • The Red Storm leads the all-time series against Siena 13-0, playing 12 games from 1984 to 1995, then restarting the series last season.

  • From 1984 to 1989, St. John's scored 18 goals, five of the six meetings. In the all-time series, St. John's has scored 18 goals or more on the Saints 10 times.

  • The teams last met on March 21, 2007, playing on University of Albany's practice turf due to snow. Justin O'Donnell led the team to its third victory of 2007, 10-7, with five goals, setting his career-high scoring effort to date. Tom Michaelsen added to O'Donnell's efforts with five points of his own (4 goals, 1 assist). Michaelsen's four goals was also a career-best performance. Back-to-back goals by Michaelsen in the fourth quarter secured head coach Jason Miller's first victory away from DaSilva Memorial Field.

    Last Time Out

  • Sophomore Garrett Mitchell scored his first two goals of the season in the team's 7-3 loss to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, Saturday afternoon at the Urlich Sports Complex. Both of Mitchell's goals came in the second half of play, one in the third and one in the fourth period.

  • St. John's scored first for the fifth time this season as senior Jack Rosson won the opening face-off and sprinted down the turf to drive the ball past Lehigh goaltender Erik Spirko (5-5), 13 seconds into the game.

  • Sophomore goalie Dan Goldberg (0-3) had 10 saves in the net for St. John's, his third consecutive double-digit save effort. The defense had another impressive day, killing six of the Mountain Hawks' seven power plays.

    Against The MAAC

  • The Red Storm has traditionally been successful against the neighboring schools in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. In the first part of the program's history (dating until 1995), St. John's is 9-0 vs. Providence, 7-1 vs. Marist, 1-0 vs. Mount St. Mary's, and 12-0 vs. Siena. In the new era, St. John's is 1-0 over Wagner winning a decisive 16-4 contest on March 29, 2006 and 1-0 vs. Siena, with a 10-7 victory last season.

    That Was A Close One

  • So far this season, four of the Red Storm's six games have been decided by three goals or less.

    A Family Affair

  • When the Red Storm takes on the Siena Saints on Tuesday, freshman Dan Kalata will face his older brother John. This will mark the second straight game in which a Red storm player will be pitted against a brother as freshman Carlin Cornetta's brother Ricky plays for Lehigh. St. John's, of course, has the Michaelsen twins, Tom and Trevor on its roster.

    Storm Tracker

  • Senior Justin O'Donnell leads the team in points with 10 (8 goals, 2 assists). O'Donnell was named to the ECAC Honor Roll for the week of March 17 for his four-goal performance against the Loyola Greyhounds on March 15.

  • Junior Trevor Michaelsen is second in points with 9 (7goals, 2 assists) and has scored at least one goal in the four of the last five games played.

    ECAC-Honors

  • Senior middie Justin O'Donnell has been the Red Storm's leading point-scorer in three of the five games this season. O'Donnell's ten points moves him up from No. 17 to No. 13 on the St. John's all-time scorers list as he overtakes John Welsh. With 79 career points (63 goals, 16 assists), and his four goals against Loyola on March 15, O'Donnell is becomes 11th Red Storm player to hit 60 goals.

    Killing The Penalty

  • The Red Storm's man-down defense is top-notch as they have allowed just six power play goals in 33 opportunities. Once again, against Lehigh on March 22, defenders Tim LaMare, Ryan Parker and Mike Luyster held the opponent to one goal in seven man-up situations.

    Scouting The Siena Saints

  • Siena has completed a successful first half of the season with five wins.

  • The Sainst are currently receiving votes in both the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and the USILA Coaches Poll.

  • Led by junior Matt Girsh with 23 points (14 goals, 9 assists), the Saints are riding a two-game winning streak. On March 22, the Saints defeated the Hartford Hawks (0-7), 10-4; and on March 18, the Saints earned the program's first upset of a ranked opponent with a 5-4 victory over the ECAC's then-No.17 Loyola Greyhounds. In the victory, sophomore goaltender Brent Herbst had 16 saves. Sophomore Ryan Duggan netted a hat trick. Duggan is second on the team in scoring with 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists).

  • Siena's two losses were to Stony Brook (March 8) and Saint Joseph's (March 15). Both games were decided by less than two goals. Four of Siena's seven games have been decided by two or less.

    On Deck
The Red Storm will collide with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in an ECAC duel in Piscataway, N.J., on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
