BETHLEHEM, PA. - Sophomore Garrett Mitchell scored his first two goals of the season in the Red Storm lacrosse team's 7-3 loss to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, Saturday afternoon at the Urlich Sports Complex. Both of Mitchell's goals came in the second half of play, one in the third and one in the fourth period. With the loss, St. John's falls to 0-6 on the season, while Lehigh evens its record at 5-5. St. John's scored first for the fifth time this season as senior Jack Rosson won the opening face-off and sprinted down the turf to drive the ball past Lehigh goaltender Erik Spirko (5-5), 13 seconds into the game. Lehigh came back with two goals in the first period and two more in the second to gain the 4-1 advantage going into halftime. In the third period, Mitchell brought the Red Storm within two goals, scoring from senior Tom Michaelsen's pass in front of the Lehigh net. The Mountain Hawks scored once more in the third and twice in the fourth to give them a 7-2 lead. Mitchell scored once more, unassisted, with just over a minute left in the game. The Red Storm defense, led by seniors Tim LaMare, Ryan Parker and Mike Luyster and defensive midfielders senior Chris DeMarco and junior Matt Viscusi successfully killed six of seven Red Storm penalties. Freshman Dan Cremens also made an impact on the defensive end of the field during the second half.
