St. Johns Mens Golf Team in 22nd Place After First Round of NCAA Central Regional

Little Rock, Ark.The St. Johns mens golf team recorded a 20-over par 308 to put them in 22nd place after the first round of the NCAA Central Regional at Pleasant Valley Golf Course.

Senior Jesse Fitzgerald (Sayville, N.Y.) played par golf over the back the nine and finished with an eighteen hole score of two-over par 74 to put him in a tie for 43rd place. Junior Andrew Svoboda (Stamford, Conn.) finished his round strong with birdies on 17 and 18 to earn him a three-over par 75 and a tie for 57th place.

Senior Joe Saladino (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) started his round off on a good note with a birdie on one but could not keep the momentum going and finished in a tie for 96th place at six-over par 78. Kyle Sleasman (Loundonville, N.Y.) finished the round tied for 122nd place at nine-over par 81, while John DeForest (Cottekill, N.Y.) carded an 11-over par 83 to put him in a tie for 133rd place.

The Red Storm look to move up the leader board when they tee off tomorrow in second round action. The NCAA Central Regional concludes on Saturday with a final round of 18 holes. The top 10 teams will move on to the NCAA Championships hosted by Ohio State University on its Scarlet Course.
