St. Johns Golf Finishes Sixth at Princeton Invitational

JAMAICA, N.Y. -- The St. Johns mens golf team shot a 19-over par 303 in the second and final round of play and finished in sixth place at the Princeton Invitational, held at the Springdale Golf Club in New Jersey. The Red Storm had led the field of 18 teams after firing a two-over par 286 in the first round.

Penn State shot a nine-over par 577 to finish first, followed by Georgetown (17-over par 585), Princeton (17-over par 585), Pennsylvania (20-over par 588) and Rutgers (20-over par 588). The Red Storm finished in sixth at 21-over par 589.

St. Johns was led by sophomores Andrew Svoboda (Harrison, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Jesse Fitzgerald (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison), who finished tied for 12th place at five-over par 146. Svoboda carded rounds of two-under par 69 and six-over par 77. Fitzgerald posted scores of two-over par 73 in each round.

Senior Andrew McKay (Collingwood, Ontario/Collegiate Institute) tied for 23rd place at seven-over par 148, while sophomore Joe Saladino (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) finished in a tie for 31st place at eight-over par 149. Freshman John DeForest (Cottekill, N.Y./Rondout Valley) tied for 72nd place at 16-over par 158.

St. Johns, the No. 2 ranked team in District 2 in the Mastercard Collegiate Rankings, will play next at the BIG EAST Tournament, to be played on April 28-29 in Rhode Island.
