Fitzgerald Within Striking Distance After First Day at Liberty Classic

Penhook, Va.- Senior Jesse Fitzgerald (Sayville, NY.) is two strokes off the lead on day one of the Liberty Classic after carding a first round score of three-over par 75. Fitzgerald is having the best spring season of his career, he has one first place finish and two top-fives in four events, and is looking to continue his solid play and make a move to the top of the leader board.

Senior Joe Saladino (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) earned a seven-over par 79 to put him in a tie for 28th place. Junior Andrew Svoboda (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Kyle Sleasman (Loudonville, N.Y.) are locked in a nine-way tie for 33rd place at eight-over par. Sophomore John Deforest (Cottekille, N.Y.) is in 60th place after carding a 16-over par 88.

St. Johns is currently in fifth place 13 strokes behind the leader after carding a 314. Fitzgerald and the rest of the Red Storm look to make a move towards the top of the leader board, as the tournament concludes today with the final 18 holes.
