Jamaica, N.Y.- St. Johns senior golfer
Andrew Svoboda (Stamford, Conn.) is one of 21 golfers on the watch list for the 2003 Ben Hogan Award which is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III or NAIA golfer. Svoboda is rewriting the St. Johns record books this season, earning individual medallist honors in five out of eight events.
Svobodas most recent victory came this past weekend at the Fort Lauderdale Classic, when he carded a one-under par 143 to earn his first individual title of the spring. He is currently ranked 38th in the Golfweek/Sagarine performance index and leads the Red Storm in every major category, including: stroke average (71.33), percentage of rounds counted (100%), average strokes off-the-lead (2.1), top-five (5), top-10 (7), and top-20 (7) finishes. Svoboda has shot even-or-under par in 12 of his 21 rounds played.
Svoboda has earned numerous accolades throughout his career. He is the All-time winningest golfer in St. Johns history with 12 individual championships (including the 2001 BIG EAST Championship). He is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection, three-time All-District II selection, twotime U.S Amateur qualifier and four-time defending club champion at Winged Foot.
