Scarsdale, NY - The St. John's Men's Golf team is in fourth place at 27-over par 307 after the first round of the Tillinghast, being played at Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY. The Tillinghast is the second of three tournaments St. John's will host this season, the first was the McLaughlin in September and the third being the Treasure Coast Classic this spring. Rutgers University is currently in first place shooting a team total 12-over par 292, one stroke ahead of the seven-team field. Towson University is in second place at 13-over par 293, followed by Oklahoma Christian University at 25-over par 305, DePaul and St. John's are tied for fourth at 27-over par 307. Leading the individual race is Matthew McMahon from DePaul University who fired an outstanding seven-under par 63, one shot shy of the course record. St. John's junior Brian McArdle (Huntington,NY) shot an even par 70 and is currently tied for second place with Jeff Castle from Towson University. Jason Bataille from Rutgers University is in fourth place after carding a one-over par 71, while teammate John Browndorf is one shot behind in fifth place at two-over par 72. Sophomore Joe Yastrub (Lake Grove, NY)carded a six-over par 76 and is currently tied for 13th place. Freshman Blake St. John ( Glasgow, Scotland) shot a nine-over par 79 and is tied for 22nd place. Senior Ian Middleton (Vancouver, Canada)is tied for 30th place at 12-over par 82, while freshman Keegan Bradley (Hopkinton, MA) carded a 13-over par 83 and is tied for 37th place. Junior Tom Travalja (Oradell, NJ) shot a 14-over par 84 and is tied for 40th place, while playing as an individual.
The St. John's men's golf team will return to action tomorrow October 19, for the second round of the Tillinghast at the Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY.
