Bethpage, NY - The St. John's men's golf team is in fifth place after the first two rounds of the McLaughlin being played at Bethpage Red in Bethpage, NY. The Red Storm carded an opening round 13-over par 293 and a second round of 20-over par 300, finishing the day at 33-over par 593. The University of Maryland leads the 9-team field by eight strokes at 16-over par 576. In second place is St. Thomas Aquinas at 24-over par 584, followed by Boston College at 25-over par 585, University of Connecticut at 30-over par 590 and rounding out the top five is St. John's. University of Maryland's Tyler Whitman holds a two-stroke lead on the field of 49 with a two-over par 142. Whitman fired two consecutive rounds of one-over par 71. Kyle Kelly of Boston College and Jayson Kohlman of St. Thomas Aquinas are tied for second at four-over par 144. John Eades of Maryland fired the lowest round of the day with a three-under par 67 and is currently tied for fifth. St. John's was led by newcomer Keegan Bradley (Hopkinton, MA) who shot a first round one-over par 71 and finished the day at five-over par 145 tied for fifth place. Juniors Brian McArdle (Huntington, NY) and Tom Travalja (Oradell, NJ) both shot four-over par 74 in the first round, while McArdle finished the day tied for 18th at eight-over par 148 and Travalja finished tied for 24th at nine-over par 149. Senior Ian Middleton (British Columbia, Canada) shot rounds of 74 and 77 to finish the day at 11-over par 151. He sits tied for 30th entering the final round of play. Freshman Blake St. John (Glasgow, Scotland) carded two rounds of 81 and is in 43rd place at 22-over par.
