St. John's Men's Golf Team Tenth After First Round of the Princeton Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - The St. John's men's golf team is in 10th place after the first day of competition at the Princeton Invitational being played at Springdale G.C. in Princeton, N.J. The Red Storm carded an opening round 21-over par 305, currently 14 strokes out of the lead. Princeton University finished round one in first place with a 7-over par 291, rounding out the top five were George Washington (292), Georgetown (293), Rutgers (296) and Temple (297) .

Leading the way for the Red Storm was sophomore John Stoltz (Middletown, N.Y.) who shot a first round two-over par 73. He started the day off a little slow but fired a two-under par 34 on the back nine to put himself in contention. Leading the individual race is Billy Hurley from Navy who shot a three-under par 68, which puts him two shots ahead of the field and five shots infront of Stoltz.

Sophomore Brian McArdle (Huntington, N.Y.) carded a first round four-over par 75 to finish the day tied for 26th. Junior Ian Middleton (British Columbia, Canada) shot a 2-under par 34 on the front nine and finished the day with a five-over par 76. Freshman Joe Yastrub ( Lake Grove, N.Y.) carded a 10-over par 81.

The Red Storm return to action tomorrow, April 10th for the final round of the Princeton Invitational.
