On Thomas: A powerful and dynamic athlete with an outstanding inside-outside game ... a dynamic scorer who provides "instant offense" ... has the ability to hit from the perimeter or bang down low for buckets ... an energetic rebounder and defender ... was rated as high as the No. 32 prospect at power forward in the 2005-06 class by recruiting services ... partial qualifier status and knee injury sidelined him for the 2006-07 season, but is now back to full strength for the 2008-09 campaign.

Norm Roberts On Thomas: "Rob had a great offseason. This is the first time Rob has been able to go through an entire summer's worth of conditioning and working out every day, and he has done a great job on his body. Rob has lost almost 20 pounds and has gotten quicker and more confident. He is getting back to the form that he was in high school, and we knew that would take time. He has really worked hard on his body, and in school."

As a Redshirt Freshman in 2007-08: Joined the Red Storm midway through the season and made an immediate impact, playing in 16 contests ... led all regulars with a .481 field goal percentage and a .533 field goal percentage in conference contests ... tallied three points in four minutes of play at Georgetown (Feb. 27) ... scored two points in back-to-back games against Providence (Feb. 9) and at Cincinnati (Feb. 13) ... had two points and one rebound in five minutes of action vs. DePaul (Jan. 12) ... scored six points on 2-of-4 shooting from the floor and grabbed two offensive rebounds at UConn (Jan. 8) ... added four points and four rebounds in 12 minutes vs. Cincinnati (Jan. 5) ... scored in all three games of the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic, his first three in a St. John's uniform ... tallied eight points by nailing 5-of-6 free throws and drilling a 3-pointer in only 13 minutes against Tulane (Dec. 22) ... totaled six points and grabbed four rebounds in nine minutes at Hawaii (Dec. 21) and two points in four minutes in his collegiate debut against Ohio (Dec. 19) ... sat out the first semester's worth of games as part of his NCAA-mandated year-in-residence.

As a Freshman in 2006-07: Was ruled a partial qualifier by the NCAA ... arrived on campus and began taking classes during January of 2007 ... January-December 2007 was his year-in-residence, where he concentrated on academics, and was not eligible to suit up for the Red Storm until after December exams ... suffered a knee injury on March 26, 2007, during a pick-up basketball game, where he experienced tears in his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), lateral collateral ligament (LCL) and lateral meniscus ... projected recovery window was eight to 12 months, but his shortened recovery time had him suited up at his eligibility time in December of 2007.

At South Kent: Averaged 20 points per game with 11 rebounds before being slowed by an ankle injury as a senior in 2005-06 ... scored nearly 25 ppg as a junior in 2004-05, leading South Kent to the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A Finals ... selected to the Jordan All-American Classic regional game at Madison Square Garden ... prep school coach was Raphael Chillious ... named the MVP of ABCD Camp during the summer of 2004.

Personal: Robert Der Shawn Thomas ... born in New York City ... guardians are Sanayi Beckles and Sean Arnold ... son of Janice Thomas ... has three brothers, John Farmer (29), Christopher Farmer (28), Scott Thomas (20), and four adopted brothers, Norvell Beckles (18), Sean Johnson (12), Jordan Arnold (6) and Shamir Canton (4) ... has two sisters, Tamika Farmer (26) and Janet Thomas (15) ... chose St. John's so he could stay close to home and spend time with his family ... majoring in history.
