St. John's Baseball Ranked No. 29 In Final Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll

QUEENS, N.Y. - After a record-setting 2008 season, the St. John's baseball team is ranked No. 29 in the final Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division I baseball poll of the year. Fresno St., winners of the College World Series, earned the top spot in the poll. View the Collegiate Baseball poll, the oldest college baseball poll in the country here.

St. John's (42-16, 20-7) set a new school record for wins in a season and tied the school record for conference wins. The Red Storm earned its second-straight BIG EAST regular season title and also reached the 40-win plateau for a school record fourth straight season. A school record-tying eight players earned All-BIG EAST honors and the team reached the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the past five years. In the course of the season St. John's also peaked at No. 18 in the Baseball America poll (May 12), its highest ranking in the poll since May of 1981.

The Red Storm also received votes in the final editions of both the ESPN/USA Today and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) polls.
