Brown, Karmas Earn All-Ping!Baseball Honors

    QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior pitcher George Brown and freshman designated hitter Paul Karmas have each earned postseason honors from Ping!Baseball. Brown earned All-Ping!Baseball second team honors, while Karmas was named an All-Ping!Baseball freshman honorable mention.

    Brown has already been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) District II Player of the Year. The senior southpaw brought in Louisville Slugger second team All-America honors from the Collegiate Baseball newspaper and has earned second team All-America accolades from Pro-Line Athletic/NCBWA. Brown was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and was an All-BIG EAST first team selection. The lefty finished the season with a 9-1 record and was a perfect 9-0 in the regular season. Brown compiled a 2.91 ERA in a career-high tying 14 starts and added a career-high 59 strikeouts. The lefty tossed a career-high 89.2 innings, held opponents to a .251 batting average and walked just 12 batters.

    The senior was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 27th round (815 overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

    Karmas, meanwhile, was an All-BIG EAST second team selection and earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors from the Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The DH batted .312 in 56 games and led the team with 68 hits and 17 doubles. Karmas also led the team with 45 RBI and added three home runs. The freshman posted a .431 slugging percentage and had a .379 on-base percentage.

    Karmas led the Red Storm with 13 multi-RBI games and tied for the team lead with 19 multi-hit games. The freshman also had a 15-game hitting streak, which tied for the second longest on the team.
