JAMAICA, N.Y. -- St. Johns University baseball players
Charlie Bilezikjian (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Mike Tamulionis (West Bridgewater, Mass.) were drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft. Bilezikjian was picked 412th overall in the 14th round, while Tamulionis went at 922 in the 31st round.
Bilezikjian finished the season batting .347 (61-for-176), which ranked second on the team, while leading the team in eight different offensive categories. One of the teams senior captains, Bilezikjian led the team in runs scored (49), triples (3), home runs (11), RBI (49), total bases (114), slugging percentage (.648), walks (50), and on-base percentage (.494). In addition, he finished second on the team in hits (61), doubles (14) and in stolen bases (15). In conference games, Bilezikjian walked 30 times, setting a new conference record.
Tamulionis was a workhorse out of the bullpen appearing in 22 of the Red Storms 52 games this season. He posted a 1-2 record while leading the team in saves (5) and earned run average (3.14). In addition, Tamulionis held opponents to a .238 batting average while striking out 32 and walking only nine batters in 43 innings of work.
