BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Sophomore third baseman Jason Kane (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) hit an RBI double with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting St. John's to a 3-2 win over St. Francis (N.Y.) College on Thursday at the Narrows Complex. The win, the Red Storm's fourth in a row and seventh in their last nine games, improves the team to 29-19 overall. In a game originally scheduled for Shea Stadium, but was postponed due to rain, the teams played on the Terriers home field, with St. John's serving as the home team.In the 10th, senior catcher Mike Niksa (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice by junior left fielder Eric Potts (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park). Kane then hit a 1-0 offering from Jose Gutierrez to the fence in right field, scoring Niksa and giving St. John's the 3-2 win.The St. John's win also made a winner of sophomore Vinny Mannese (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro Central), who threw three innings of scoreless relief, and pitched out a second and third jam with two out in the 10th inning. The win was the first of Mannese's collegiate career.The Red Storm had seemingly taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but a hit by sophomore centerfielder Charlie Bilezikjian (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond) was called a ground-rule double and he was stranded at first.
