JAMAICA, N.Y. -- Junior third baseman Jason Kane (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) drove in a school record eight runs and led a St. Johns offense that pounded out 20 hits en route to an 18-7 win over Fairfield at The Ballpark on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Tom Klemm (Salem, N.H./Salem) started and went three innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits, walking two and striking out three batters as he improved to 4-3 this season. He was one of five pitchers to see action for the Red Storm.

After a pair of errors led to the Stags taking a 2-0 lead after the top half of the first inning, the St. Johns bats took over. Junior J.P. Cirigliano (Flushing, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) hit a one-out single and moved to third on a double by junior Charlie Bilezikjian (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond). The Red Storm added a single run in the second when freshman Josh Stewart (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) singled, stole two bases and scored on a passed ball.

The team added five more in the third, putting the game out of reach. Bilezikjian led off with a double and moved to third on a single by senior Chris Fallon (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne). A single by Cambra brought home Bilezikjian and Kane followed with a triple to center, scoring two runs and giving St. Johns an 8-2 lead. Sophomore catcher Asa Grunenwald (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) then stepped to the plate and drilled an offering from Dan Krines over the left field fence for his first career home run, making the score 10-2.

In the sixth, freshman Anthony DeRosa (Salem, N.H./Salem) hit a leadoff double and moved to third when Stewart reached on a bunt single. Cirigliano followed with a single up the middle, scoring DeRosa, and putting runners on the corners. Cirigliano stole second and an infield single from Bilezikjian scored Stewart, increasing the lead to 12-2. With runners on the corners again, Fallon grounded into a double play, scoring Cirigliano.

The Red Storm added five more runs in the seventh, with freshman Dan Cronin (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) hitting an RBI single, junior Shane Zarzycki (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Chaminade) hitting a two-run single and Kane driving in two more runs.
