Compliance

Dear alumni, faculty, fans and friends of Red Storm Athletics:

St. John's University and the Department of Athletics are committed to the highest levels of institutional control and full compliance with NCAA and BIG EAST regulations. The Department of Athletics operates in a manner that is consistent with the letter and spirit of NCAA, BIG EAST Conference and University rules, regulations and policies. Acting on the NCAA's fundamental principle of institutional control, the compliance office is responsible for leading and coordinating such efforts at St. John's University. It also acts as a resource for current and prospective student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, administration, boosters and agents regarding to NCAA and BIG EAST rules compliance.

Primary Functions of the Compliance Office:
Institutional control of athletics is a fundamental requirement of NCAA legislation. The NCAA Constitution mandates that each institution shall be responsible for ensuring that members of the institution's staff, student-athletes and other individuals or groups representing the institution's athletics interest comply with applicable Association rules.

The St. John's compliance office seeks to carry out the following essential functions in a manner that promotes a positive compliance atmosphere and demonstrates an unwavering commitment to highest standards of ethical behavior.

  • To educate St. John's coaches, student-athletes, recruits, staff and supporters regarding NCAA and BIG EAST Conference rules.
  • To serve as a resource for coaches, student-athletes, staff and supporters by providing accurate and timely interpretations of the NCAA and BIG EAST rules and regulations.
  • To monitor the activities of the Department of Athletics and the University in a variety of critical areas such as ethical conduct, amateurism, recruiting, eligibility certification, financial aid, extra benefits, playing and practice season limitations, and division membership.
  • To investigate and report violations of NCAA and BIG EAST Conference rules.

    This website is intended to provide you with a general understanding of NCAA regulatoy guidelines. St. John's Athletics needs your help in complying with these rules and regulations in order to maintain the welfare of the University, the athletics program and most importantly, St. John's Red Storm student-athletes.

    This site does not encompass every rules scenario; therefore, the compliance staff invites and encourages anyone with a compliance-related question or concern to contact the compliance staff at 718-990-2138. The compliance office is located in Carnesecca Arena, Room 206.
