Eric Rienecker is in his second season with the Red Storm, and his first as the Director of Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes. Rienecker is responsible for the overall coordination and supervision of the men's basketball academic support program.
Prior to St. John's, Rienecker served as Senior Athletic Academic Advisor at Rutgers University for three years. During his stint at Rutgers, Rienecker was the primary advisor for football, field hockey, men's basketball, women's soccer, softball and women's lacrosse. As Senior Athletic Academic Advisor he was also responsible for the development and supervision of the tutoring program, individual learning assistance program, study skills workshops and the supplemental instruction program for over 800 student-athletes.
From 1997-2000, Rienecker served as the Director of the RU STRONG/NCAA Life Skills Program at Rutgers University. In 1998, Rienecker implemented a peer educational group that focused on the issues of dating violence and alcohol abuse. The program received regional and national recognition as a program of excellence from the NCAA, the National Consortium for Athletics and Sports (NCAS) and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).
Rienecker has been very involved in professional organizations, servicing as a member of the N4A Executive Board (1998-2000) and as the organization's Newsletter Editor (1998-2000). He has also made several presentations at the N4A and NCAS national conventions. In 2000, the N4A presented Rienecker with the Professional Promise award for his achievements.
Rienecker received his master's degree in athletic counseling from Springfield College, and is 1995 graduate of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, where he earned all-conference and all New York regional honors as a member of the men's soccer team.
He currently resides in Bloomfield, N.J., with his wife Tara, who is the Director of Academic Services for Athletes at Montclair State University. The couple have a son, Zachary (3).
