Dustin Hockensmith is in his first year in the St. John's Athletic Communications department. He serves as the primary sport contact for the men's soccer and baseball teams and as a secondary contact for the men's basketball team.
Hockensmith joined St. John's after working for ESPN SportsTicker in Baltimore, Md. and for the University of Maryland. He served as a reporter for ESPN SportsTicker, covering primarily Baltimore Orioles home games. Prior to that, Hockensmith worked as a full-time intern in the University of Maryland media relations office. At Maryland, he was the primary contact for the baseball and cross country teams, and served as an interim contact for women's soccer, men's and women's track and field and women's gymnastics. In addition, he worked with the football and nationally ranked women's basketball teams.
Hockensmith is a 2004 graduate of Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, with a focus in Economics. While at Penn State, he worked in the Sports Information office, serving as a primary contact for the field hockey and men's golf teams in 2003 and 2004, respectively, and as a secondary contact for the women's basketball team from 2002-04. He attended two NCAA women's basketball tournaments, including a trip to the 2004 Elite Eight, and two NCAA field hockey tournaments, and hosted numerous NCAA and Big Ten Tournament events.
Also while at Penn State, Hockensmith worked as an associate scout for the Toronto Blue Jays and Anaheim Angels. He helped evaluate talent in the Big Ten Conference, American Legion baseball program and AAABA baseball program.
Hockensmith is a native of Harrisburg, Pa. and currently resides in Flushing, N.Y.
