John Diffley was named Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration at St. John's on January 1, 2004.
No stranger to the Red Storm athletic program, Diffley was an assistant men's soccer coach for four years. After earning his master's in business administration at St. John's, Diffley spent three years working in financial services for a company that leads the industry in providing Hedge Fund infrastructure.
In his role with the athletic department, Diffley is a key liaison for all head coaches and oversees equipment operations, facilities, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, support groups (pep band, cheerleaders, dance team) and enforcement of the student-athlete code of conduct. He is the sports administrator for lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's and women's fencing and women's track.
While at St. John's from 1997-2001, Diffley was a key member of Dr. David Masur's nationally recognized men's soccer program. He assisted the team in recruiting, scouting, individual instruction, game preparation and physical conditioning. In that span, the Red Storm posted a 60-20-10 overall record, reached the NCAA Tournament in four consecutive seasons and won two BIG EAST titles: the 1997 regular season crown and the 1998 tournament championship.
Diffley spent two years as the men's soccer coach at Dominican College prior to joining St. John's in 1997. Diffley's coaching career followed a successful career as a professional soccer player.
Diffley was the captain of three different professional teams and made 26 appearances for the U.S. National Team. He played Major League Soccer for Tampa Bay and Kansas City and also played professionally in Holland. Along with success abroad, Diffley starred locally for the 1995 national champion Long Island Rough Riders. In addition, Diffley was a member of the United States Olympic Team in 1998.
A 1989 graduate of American University in Washington, D.C., Diffley was a four-year standout for the Eagles, playing in the NCAA championship final and winning American University Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in 1998.
Diffley resides in Floral Park, N.Y., with his wife, Marcia, and three daughters, Jacqueline, Nicole and Katie.
