QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's Department of Athletics, in conjunction with University Community Relations, held the sixth-annual campus Fun Run for Breast Cancer Awareness, on Tuesday afternoon. More than 100 student-athletes from Red Storm varsity teams participated in the walk around campus to help promote this Sunday's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walkathon.

"The event was a great day to spread the word and get energized about this Sunday's walk," said University Community Relations Associate Kevin Ryan. "This is just another way that St. John's reaches out to the community and helps to fulfill the Vincentian Mission."

The Fun Run took place on the Queens campus during the University's common hour. The procession was led by a sign advertising the annual walkathon that will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21 beginning on Queens Blvd.

Student-athletes began in the front of Carnesecca Arena, walked up the Vincentian Stairs to the Great Lawn and ended at the pink ribbon outside of Newman Hall. During the walk, student-athletes tied pink bows to trees and lamp posts along the route.

"The Fun Run was an enjoyable way to promote and show support for breast cancer awareness across campus," said softball head coach Amy Kvilhaug. "The support level shown by student-athletes and coaches for the event was wonderful."

Members of the softball team will also be raising money to participate in Sunday's walk.

For more information or to register to participate in this year's walkathon, please contact the Office of Community Relations at 718-990-6687, or visit www.acsevents.org/strides/ny/queens.
