The St. John’s athletic department, in conjunction with campus ministry and university community relations, held the fifth-annual campus Fun Run for Breast Cancer Awareness. Student-athletes from all Red Storm varsity teams participated in the walk around campus to help promote this Sunday’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walkathon.
“Today is a great day to spread the word and get energized about this Sunday’s walk,” said University Community Relations Associate Kevin Ryan.
The Fun Run took place on the Queens campus during the University’s common hour. The procession was lead by a sign advertising the annual walkathon that will take place on Sunday, Oct. 15 on Queens Blvd. Student-athletes walked from the front of Carnesecca Arena, through the Residence Village, up the Vincentian Stairs to the Great Lawn and ended at the pink ribbon outside of Newman Hall. During the walk, student-athletes tied pink bows to trees and lamp posts along the route.
“The student-athletes are taking a very good step in raising breast cancer awareness on campus,” said softball head coach Amy Kvilhaug. “It is a great event for St. John’s and athletics, and I know we had a lot of fun.”
