A prospective student-athlete (prospect) is a student who is currently enrolled in the ninth grade. In addition, a student who has not started ninth grade classes if St. John's University provides the individual, or the individual's relatives or friends any financial assistance or get benefits that St. John's University does not generally provide to prospective students.
A prospective student-athlete becomes a "recruited prospective student-athlete" once a St. John's University staff member or athletics representative:
- Provides the prospect with an official visit.
- Has an arranged, in-person, off-campus encounter with the prospect or the prospect's parent(s), relative(s) or legal guardian(s).
- Initiates or arranges a telephone contact with the prospect, the prospect's parent(s), relative(s) or legal guardian(s) on more than one occasion for the purpose of recruitment.
- Issues the prospect a National Letter of Intent or written offer of athletically-related financial aid.
In order to be eligible to compete at St. John's University as a Student-Athlete you will need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
After registering, you will need to certify your amateur status with the Eligibility Center. You can find out more information on that process here.
