Red Storm Spirit Extends Overseas

Feb. 23, 2006

QUEENS, N.Y. - With help from the St. John's Athletic Department and University Freshman Center, troops deployed overseas have been able to show off their Red Storm pride. Drew Lyons and his medic platoon, the Charlie Company Conquerors, were sent athletics shirts and hats just in time for the men's basketball game against Duke (Dec. 21).

"My guys get excited about stuff like this," said Lyons. "They're from the Syracuse area and that's all they talk about, so I love when I get the chance to talk about St. John's."

Lyons, who graduated from St. John's in 2004, was a member of the R.O.T.C. and then was stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y. Shortly after graduation, he was sent over to Iraq as a part of the 10th Mountain Division.

"I just want to thank St. John's for being such big supporters of me and my guys."
